5 Best Monitors for the Mac Mini (2025), Tested and Reviewed

WIRED

The Mac Mini is a fantastic little computer, but you'll need one of these great monitors to complete the setup. The Mac Mini is unbeatable in value . But unlike an iMac or MacBook, you'll need to pair it with a monitor. Apple has a couple of options: the Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR, but both are incredibly expensive (not to mention a few years old at this point). Fortunately, there are tons of great monitors out there that fit well into the Apple ecosystem. Be sure to check our Best Apple Desktops, Best MacBooks, Best Monitors, and Best Gaming Monitors guides for more.

Nvidia's tiny 3k AI mini PC is a glimpse of what's next for Windows PCs

PCWorld

When I first saw that photo of Nvidia's new Project Digits mini PC unveiled at CES 2025, I couldn't help but notice the Apple influence -- minimalist, sleek, next to a monitor that looks like Apple's Studio Display. Apple's latest Mac Mini is revolutionary in many ways, delivering the company's impressive M4 silicon in an efficient, affordable package. Windows PCs haven't yet been able to reach the same level of design beauty and overall balanced unit. Could Nvidia's new Mac Mini-like small-form-factor AI supercomputer usher in a major disruption for Windows PCs? Let's dive into Project Digits, what it is, and what it brings to the table for the future. It's a little unfair to compare the Mac Mini and Nvidia's Project Digits, mainly because they target vastly different users and markets.

The Morning After: Our verdict on Apple's M4 Mac mini

Engadget

Apple's even tinier Mac mini is here -- with M4 power. It won't shock you to hear the M4 Pro is very fast, but the Mac mini comes with 16 gigs of RAM as standard too. The base Mac mini has an M4 chip sports a 10-core CPU (four high-performance cores and six high efficiency), a 10-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. For 1,399, you can bump up to the dramatically more powerful M4 Pro chip (like our review unit), featuring a 14-core CPU (10 high-performance and four high efficiency) and 20-core GPU. Its Geekbench 6 and Cinebench scores still beat most of the computers we've tested this year, and its GPU is fast enough for solid 1080p 60 fps gameplay.

The Morning After: FBI warns about fake election security videos

Engadget

At the start of the weekend, the FBI issued a statement addressing videos "falsely claiming to be from the FBI relating to election security." That includes one claiming the bureau had "apprehended three linked groups committing ballot fraud," and one about Kamala Harris' husband. Disinformation has seemingly grown substantially in the final few days, with the presidential election kicking off tomorrow. Late last week, the FBI, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said they'd traced two other videos back to "Russian influence actors," including one falsely depicting individuals from Haiti voting illegally in multiple counties in Georgia. Just a couple of days to go, then everything will be fine.

In fact, we'll be including some of those questions and our answers later in this episode as well. Ben, you are somebody who I know is fully in the Mac ecosystem, and I also know you're very conscientious. Well, unfortunately, or for what you do, you're kind of there, but you're also very conscientious about how you upgrade, right? How did you feel about all these new Macs? Because we have the M4 iMac, we have an adorable new Mac mini, which is tiny, absolutely tiny, and M4 chips on the MacBook Pros. Is anything particularly compelling to you? Ben: So as I was reading up on the Mac, All of the stuff they released this week. That chip is four years old now. Ben: cut me like a knife. But that is M1 Classic, not M1 Pro. My research says that the M1 Pro is only two times slower than this new M4 Pro. Please fact check me on this. Send us an email at podcast adding gadget. If I didn't get that right. Devindra: I mean, you, you bring up a good point though, Ben, be sure to be very clear about what Apple is comparing its devices to, right? Because they often go back to base M1, which. Was released at the end of 2020 2020. It took a full year before we got the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, right. Before they really expanded the line. Ben: you mean M1 Pro and M1 Max. So remember that there was that time difference when they, they just dropped the M1 on us and that was on the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro 13 inch, which was a fricking waste of time and the Mac mini, I believe back then, right.

Everything Apple announced during its unofficial Mac Week

Engadget

Following the illustrious line of calendar-spanning corporate events like Lobsterfest and Shark Week, Apple tried something new this year with a celebration unofficially known as Mac Week. The company's three-day product rollout for desktop hardware centered around the M4 chip, built for Apple Intelligence. The M4-powered iMac has the same design (apart from some new colors) but with more horsepower inside. Apple says the all-in-one desktop is 1.7 times faster for daily productivity and 2.1 times faster for more demanding tasks like gaming or photo editing. Like all new Macs announced this week, it loses the measly 8GB of RAM previously seen in the cheapest Macs, jumping to 16GB as the baseline.

Apple's MacBook Pros get an M4 upgrade, including the new M4 Max chip

Engadget

Not that it's a huge surprise after Apple's week of M4 upgrades -- first with the 24-inch iMac, then the adorable new Mac mini -- but today the company is also bringing its M4 chips to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. And, in addition to the base M4 chip and the M4 Pro, they can also be configured with the newly announced M4 Max. Still, the internal upgrades should be compelling for anyone with an M1 MacBook Pro or an older Intel model. Just like with the M4 iMac and Mac mini, Apple is also making 16GB of RAM the default for the 1,599 14-inch MacBook Pro (fixing one of our biggest issues with that model). You can thank Apple Intelligence for that memory bump, even if you don't give a lick about AI.

Mac mini M2 review: Apple's cheaper, tiny but mighty computer

The Guardian

Apple's cheapest desktop computer has had a price cut and a power upgrade – making it one of the smallest, cheapest and most adaptable Macs yet. The Mac mini starts at £649 ($599/A$999) – £50 less than the 2020 model – and has Apple's latest M2 or M2 Pro chips as used in the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro to great effect. The tiny aluminium box is about the size of a hardback book, measuring just under 20cm each side and less than 4cm thick. It is easy to fit just about anywhere: on a desk, mounted under one, in a TV cabinet, on the back of the monitor, stuck to a wall – wherever you can reach with a power cable. Like a normal desktop PC you simply plug the Mac mini into a screen, keyboard and mouse, all of which can be bought with it at great expense – or you can use your existing gear. I connected an Asus 4K monitor and Logitech Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to the mini to set it up, using them during the length of the review without issue.

The Morning After: Our verdict on Apple's Mac Studio

Engadget

Capping off a week of Apple reviews (iPhone SE here, iPad Air right here), we've got the verdict on the company's impressive new desktop PC. It looks like a big Mac mini but houses some incredibly powerful components, centered around Apple's newest M1 chips. According to Senior Editor Devindra Hardawar, the Mac Studio delivers the power and ports creative professionals need. Even though it's not upgradable, it's a Mac that can finally compete with high-end PC workstations. The Mac Studio starts at $1,999 with the M1 Max chip and jumps to $3,999 if you want to tame the M1 Ultra.
